The Spirit of Gambo is going on tour, visiting castles and country houses for the Organisatie Oude Muziek.
The champion of the viola da gamba consort: this honorary title is awarded to John Jenkins, the most prolific composer of ensemble music in 17th century England. His music was mainly intended for a complete set of gambas, and meant for the residents of the impressive English country houses he visited as a music teacher. The Spirit of GAMBO plays on specially built violas – a unique feature of this ensemble. They selected the most beautiful 2 to 6-part Ayres, Fantasias and Pavanes by Master Jenkins (1592-1678).
