Life after death

Beethoven on viola da gamba? Freek Borstlap and Ivanka Neeleman will show us how beautiful it sounds on the upcoming concert in the St. Joriskerk in Bredevoort on Sunday 9th October 2016.

The instrument went ‘underground’ after the death of the last viola da gamba virtuoso, Carl Friedrich Abel, in 1787. The amount of new viola da gamba tracks decreased but big composers like C. Ph. E. Bach still continue to write for the instrument.
To continiously have something more modern to play, gambaplayers would rearrange opera- and violinmusic for their instrument.

The program includes among others; a duo of Beethoven, Sonata of C. Ph. E. Bach in C major, a solo by C.F. Abel and a recently rediscovered solo fantasia by Telemann.
